History of the Breed
Max Von Stephanitz, now often referred to as the father of the German Shepherd breed, worked with other breeders to develop a purebred dog with the best qualities from the three German shepherd varieties.
Von Stephanitz, a Captain in the German army felt that the versatile German Shepherd had great potential as a police dog as well as a war dog.
They were trained as sentries, messengers and medic dogs. During the war the dogs delivered messages to maintain communications and carried ammunition and medical supplies in backpacks; they would also offer comfort to injured soldiers.
German Shepherds are highly intelligent and will show undying devotion to their master, but they are dogs that need company and stimulation to be at their best.
I am located in Bolton, Greater Manchester and I am surrounded by beautiful countryside which my dogs enjoy every day.
In 2008 I became semi retired and to celebrate, my husband bought me my very own German Shepherd, Polly. Little did the poor man know, but this would lead to the awakening of a long held desire to have my own kennels and so I searched for and bought, my two other German Shepherds, Ali & Cassie.
Since getting my first beautiful girl I have worked hard to understand the breed and to hone into the characteristics I love in the German Shepherd.
In 2010, I applied for my affix RATHDRUM-
German Shepherds should be steady, loyal, self assured, courageous and willing. All of these characteristics I have tried to introduce into my dogs. I also aim to produce healthy, chunky, big boned dogs.
With your new puppy, you will receive a 5 Generation pedigree and 4 weeks free insurance. Your pup will be vet checked, have up to date flea & worm treatments, first injection and be micro chipped.
I also provide a Puppy Pack which includes early puppy photos, advice on how to look after your new puppy, diet sheet, training tips, Contract of Sale and a lifetime of after sales service.
